We were surprised to see the 1 Series M introduced late in 2011 as a 2011 model, with no 2012 model to speak of. The incredibly spry 1 Series M with 335 bhp has come and gone too quickly. We're left with the last naturally aspirated 3.0-liter inline-6 in the 128i; the engine will be replaced by a new 2-liter turbo four in the next generation. Updated last year with an optional 7-speed dual-clutch DCT transmission and single-turbo 3-liter I-6 N55 engine, the top-of-the-line 135i is still plenty of fun on the back roads. The 1 remains available as a coupe or convertible with a power-retractable cloth top, and there is hope the next generation will bring a 5-door to the U.S.

2011 BMW 1 Series M.

Did you pick up your 2011 BMW 1 Series M? If not, you may be paying a lot more for one down the road. The $46,135 German sports coupe will be produced through the end of this year... and then it's done. According to TheDetroitBureau.com, BMW admits that its latest sex toy pumped-up two-door will have a very limited run of one model year.
That's not to say we won't see another version on the future. However, it could be several years before that happens, which should make the current (and only) crop of BMW 1 Series M cars quite collectible.
After reading TDB's report, we pressed BMW for some more insight into the matter, and received confirmation that the current 1 Series M is only sticking around for the 2011 model year. The next generation 1 Series is at least two-and-a-half to three years away, which is too much time to speculate on a future 1 Series M. 2012 BMW 1 Series.

With the 2012 BMW 1 Series nearing its debut, BMW has released a painfully vague teaser image of its next small car. We already have a good indication of the car's five-door shape, thanks to a crack team of spy photographers, but a second version is in the works, and judging by the profile, it's likely a three-door hatch.
However the model lineup shakes out for the next 1 Series, we can expect the five-door to hit production first, followed shortly thereafter by the second variant. To get ready for the cars' debut, BMW is readying a new ad blitz featuring two siblings under the slogan "one origin, two originals."
